Just hours after the announcement that Strikeforce has officially acquired ProElite’s assets, the organization started putting together their first event for 2009. Middleweight Benji Radach will be facing Scott Smith on an April 11th event at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
Although bout agreements have yet to be signed, MMAJunkie.com confirmed with sources close to the situation that both fighters have verbally agreed to the fight.
This will be the first of a possible 8-10 events that Strikeforce will host on Showtime within the next three years. The two parties came to terms shortly after the announcement was made regarding the acquisition.
Radach defeated Murilo “Ninja” Rua via TKO in the 2ndRound of their bout at “EliteXC: Heat” last October. He is one of the more aggressive and exciting 185-pound fighters in the world, and has compiled a 19-4 professional record.
Smith is an MMA veteran, most known for his appearance as a contestant on “The Ulitmate Fighter 4” reality TV series. Although Smith is a devastating striker, he has only posted a 5-4 record in his last nine bouts.
It has also been Rumored that former UFC middleweight champion Frank Shamrock will also be participating at this event, however an opponent has yet to be named.
