MMA heavyweight fighter Andrei Arlovski will be one of the opening acts for the Paul Williams vs. Winky Wright middleweight matchup on April 11th. Arlovski will be making his professional boxing debut on the Golden Boy-promoted event at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
ESPN boxing reporter Dan Rafael was the first to report Arlovski’s temporary career move, adding that no opponent has yet to be named for his 4Round encounter.
Arlovski recently signed a contract with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.
“We’re not switching gears to boxing,” Arlovski’s manager Leo Khorlinsky told Sherdog.com. “MMA is still our priority. Our commitment to Affliction is still a number-one priority and we’re looking forward to fighting on their next event.”
The former UFC heavyweight champion’s move to boxing had been rumored for quite some time, especially since he has been working extensively with legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach for the past 18 months.
Arlovski is coming off of a devastating knockout loss to WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko at Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” event last month.
