The co-main event at “UFC 111: St-Pierre vs. Hardy” will feature a heavyweight clash between Frank Mir and Shane Carwin to crown an interim heavyweight champion, one that current champ Brock Lesnar claims is a “make believe belt.”
“I’m still the heavyweight champion. I haven’t defended my championship for less than a year,” Lesnar said while being interviewed on ESPN’s SportsCenter.
This isn’t the first time that he has publicly expressed the fact that he still is the heavyweight champion, but he understands why the UFC did it.
“That was a business decision that the UFC had to make, that belt is a make believe belt,” the former WWE champion said about the interim title.
“The Next Big Thing” also commented on Frank Mir’s Octagon death statement, which he chalked up to Mir selling a possible trilogy and bringing an entertainment aspect to the UFC, which is something that Lesnar is very familiar with.
“My first and foremost goal is to win in the Octagon, that’s the most important thing. What’s said outside of the Octagon is purely entertainment,” Lesnar explained.
Regardless of what happens tomorrow night Lesnar will know who his opponent is for July 3rd, and whoever it is better be ready for a completely healthy champion.
“I’m 100 percent recovered,” Lesnar emphatically stated.
