With the newly-improved pool of talent to choose from, Strikeforce brass is already at work organizing their second promotion of the calendar year. Although the fight card for their April 11th “Shamrock vs. Diaz” event isn’t complete, they have already scheduled an event in May in Tacoma, Washington.
Strikeforce matchmaker Javier Mendez told MMAWeekly.com that they have already signed three preliminary bouts, and confirmed that Strikeforce middleweight champion Robbie Lawler would be defending his title.
In addition, they are still ironing out a bout that would have Strikeforce light heavyweight champ Renato “Babalu” Sobral defend his title against Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante. Calvalcante has already accepted and now they are just waiting on the champ.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said that he has been in contact with two of the company’s most popular fighters in Gina Carano and Kevein “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson.
He stated that the female sensation would most likely be making her Strikeforce debut at this event in May.
Coker confirmed that he has had conversations with Kimbo’s representatives, however the street fighting legend is negotiating “ancillary” items on his contract, such as scheduling and opponents, before he signs on with Strikeforce.
