Strikeforce’s recently upgraded roster is allowing them to quickly move forward with quality bouts. Company CEO Scott Coker recently discussed the improvement of women’s MMA and how Stikeforce intends to expand that niche.
Coker announced that of the 42 fighters acquired in the ProElite deal, eight were female, including Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and superstar Gina Carano.
Along with Santos and Carano, Coker stated that they are bringing on Sarah Kaufman, Shayna Baszler, Debi Purcell, Jan Finney, Melanie Lacroix and Katrina Alendal.
Missing from this list is Kaitlin Young, who controversially lost to Carano at EliteXC’s first CBS televised event. Strikeforce brass stated that they chose to develop other fighters.
The newly-improved Strikeforce will be holding their first event on April 1st, where Santos is expected to compete.
