With the UFC’s first-ever event in Germany still months away, rumors are spreading that UFC 99 may be headlined by Hall of Famer Randy Couture taking on Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic. The June 13th card will be held at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany.
When the former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champ was asked if he thought that the fight was going to happen, Couture stated, “(It’s a) possibility.”
Couture, who is known as one of MMA’s most dedicated fighters, will be filming a movie later this year. If the movie wraps as scheduled, he would more than welcome the challenge of taking on the Croatian.
“If I can get a full camp in before the Germany fight (then) I would love to fight Cro Cop,” Couture said. “He’s a huge star in the Germany. The question is whether I can get a full camp in.”
UFC president Dana White admitted that he has reached out to Cro Cop regarding a return to the Octagon.
“I talked to Mirko probably about a month ago,” White said. “He said he’s ready to come back.”
Cro Cop made his long-awaited UFC debut nearly two years ago. However after much hoopla, he was only able to post a 1-2 record, leaving both parties wanting to part ways for the time being.
“He wants to come back in the UFC and he’d love to fight in Germany,” White added. “I’m talking to his agent right now, and we’re trying to figure out what we can do.”
