With so much attention being given to the UFC’s monumental UFC 100 event, its predecessor is getting overlooked quite a bit. However, if UFC president Dana White has his way, the UFC 99 card will be just as good as their centennial event.
“BJ (Penn) is probably going to defend his 155-pound title against Kenny Florian, and I’m thinking maybe it’s going to be in Germany,” White said.
With Kenny Florian’s dominant win over Joe Stevenson at UFC 91, he assured himself the next shot at Penn’s title. The Hawaiian hasn’t defended his title since he defeated Sean Sherk at UFC 84 last May.
Earlier this week, it was reported that former PrideFC 205-pound champion Wanderlei Silva will be taking on former UFC middleweight champ Rich Franklin at a catch weight around 195 pounds. White would only suggest that Silva would be on the card.
“Wanderlei (Silva) will probably fight on that Germany card, too. Not sure yet, but possibly.”
Finally, UFC president Dana White admitted that he has reached out to Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic regarding a return to the Octagon.
“I talked to Mirko probably about a month ago,” White said. “He said he’s ready to come back.”
Cro Cop made his long-awaited UFC debut nearly two years ago. However after much hoopla, he was only able to post a 1-2 record, leaving both parties wanting to part ways for the time being.
“He wants to come back in the UFC and he’d love to fight in Germany,” White added. “I’m talking to his agent right now, and we’re trying to figure out what we can do.”
It is believed that if he comes back, he would be taking on UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture.
