Fedor vs. Barnett in July

Reports are surfacing that Affliction Entertainment is currently in talks with WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett to headline their third MMA event in July. Preliminary talks have the two squaring off inside of the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, the only sight that Affliction has ever called home.

Josh Gross of SI.com reported that Emelianenko’s camp felt that he could be back to action this summer. Although no specific date has yet to be set for the event, talks are still ongoing.

Emelianenko knocked out former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski in their bout last month at “Day of Reckoning.” The Russian holds an astonishing 29-1 record, and hasn’t lost a match in over eight years.

Barnett also walked away victorious on the same night, as he TKO’ed Gilbert Yvel in the 3rdRound of his fight. Although he and Emelianenko are friends, Barnett has stated they are willing to put that aside for the good of the sport.

In addition, a matchup of this magnitude would award large paydays for both fighters.
