The UFC has added another possible challenger to Anderson Silva’s middleweight reign as UFC.com has just reported that former Dream middleweight Yoshihiro Akiyama has inked a deal with the promotion. Akiyama currently holds a 12-1-0 record (with 2 no contests), including wins over Denis Kang and Melvin Manhoef.
Akiyama’s lone loss came in only his second professional MMA fight against K-1 legend Jerome LeBanner back in 2005.
UFC president Dana White was clearly excited about the signing telling UFC.com, “UFC fans are going to love watching him because he always shows up to fight.”
Akiyama brings an exciting style of judo as well as a very dangerous stand-up and ground game that should allow him to quickly move up the UFC’s middleweight ladder.
