For those of you that can’t get enough “The Ultimate Fighter” action, the UFC has partnered with Spike TV to put the entire library of their popular reality show online so fans can watch for free.
UltimateFighter.com is currently up-and-running and features full-length episodes and complete fights from all 10 “The Ultimate Fighter” seasons.
Erik Flannigan, MTV Networks Entertainment Group executive vice president of Digital Media, told MMAFighting the idea was brought to the UFC a couple of years ago, however Octagon brass initially shot the “radical suggestion” down, as it would cut significantly into each edition’s DVD sales.
“For a long time, the working policy was not to give away fight finishes,” Flannigan stated. “But over time, we saw the search volume generated for some of these fights, and the majority of traffic was not going to UFC.com or Spike.com even though we generate significant traffic. It was a growing need that was unmet.”
The UFC’s decision to finally allow fans access to such a large percentage of their bouts for $Free.99 renders hope to the possibility the world’s premier MMA organization will one day make their entire fight library accessible in a similar fashion.
“It’s a big pivot for the UFC,” Flannigan added. “They’re making their peace with free video access. The numbers spoke for themselves. There is an enormous number of people seeking these UFC fights, and not going to them. This site is going to change that.”
The current collection includes 120 episodes which feature 231 fights, including over 50 knockouts, with more content coming as additional seasons are completed.
