A heavyweight matchup featuring Heath Herring and budding superstar Cain Velasquez is in the process of being inked for UFC 99 at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany. Velazquez is quickly making a name for himself inside the Octagon, and hopes for a shot at the title with a few more solid wins.
MMAWeekly.com confirmed with sources close to the situation that both fighters have agreed to the fight and bout contracts should be signed shortly.
Herring is an MMA veteran that was last seen losing a convincing unanimous decision to current champ Brock Lesnar at UFC 87 back in August. Lesnar floored Herring with a right hand in the 1stRound of the contest which fractured his left orbital, requiring a lengthy six-month recovery period.
Velasquez defeated Denis Stojnic via 2ndRound TKO at “UFC Fight Night 17” earlier this month. Although his performance was impressive, he still felt that he didn’t put forth his best effort, although his stock continues to skyrocket up the heavyweight rankings.
