Reports are surfacing that UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture has verbally accepted a bout against former interim heavyweight champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 101, which is rumored to be taking place in Portland, Oregon sometime in August.
MMAWeekly.com is reporting that Couture is on board and they are only waiting on Nogueira’s camp to sign on.
Couture was initially rumored to be fighting at UFC 99 in Cologne, Germany on June 13, however he is currently scheduled to be filming a movie and wouldn’t be able to complete a proper 8-week training camp.
Late last year, the 45-year-old Couture stated that he would be honored to take on the Brazilian jiu jitsu wizard.
“I’d fight Nogueira,” said Couture. “I had other reasons to turn down that fight last year, but that was a whole different situation. He’s a tremendous fighter. I’ve watched him for years.”
Nogueira was last seen losing his interim heavyweight title at UFC 92, where Frank Mir TKO’ed him in the 2ndRound of their affair.
After a one-year hiatus from the Octagon, Couture returned to lose his heavyweight title to Brock Lesnar at UFC 91 this past November.
