It took the UFC all of one day to find a replacement for the injured Efrain Escudaro. On just 20 days notice, Gleison Tibau has agreed to face Jeremy Stephens at UFC Fight Night 18.
It was reported yesterday that Escudero recently suffered a rib injury that would force him out of his April 1st bout against Stephens.
In his last Octagon outing, Tibau defeated Rich Clementi via guillotine choke in the 1stRound at UFC Fight Night 17. It marked the end of his two-fight losing streak, as well as Clementi’s UFC career.
Stephens also competed on that same February fight card, however he was on the wrong end of an arm bar submission when Joe Lauzon caught him in the 2ndRound of their affair.
The Escudero-Stephens bout was slated for the televised portion of the Spike TV broadcast. Even though “The Ultimate Fighter 8” lightweight winner is no longer involved in the matchup, it is believed that the UFC intends to keep the lineup as is.
