Although the UFC will not counter Strikeforce’s second CBS primetime broadcast with a live show of their own on April 17th, MMA’s monopoly will air November’s “UFC 110: Nogueira vs. Velasquez” event on Spike TV to try and retain their stranglehold on the sport.
Both fight cards can be seen on their respective networks beginning at 9PM ET/PT.
“Strikeforce: Nashville” will be jumping off inside the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee and will feature a trio of title bouts. Lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez will be putting his belt on the line against Japanese import Shinya Aoki, light heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi will defend his strap against Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal in the night’s co-main event.
Newly-signed Dan Henderson challenges middleweight title holder Jake Shields for his crown in the evening’s featured contest.
UFC 110 took place inside the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia on February 20th, it was the organization’s debut Down Under. The card was headlined by a heavyweight clash between former champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and the up-and-coming Cain Velasquez.
It was rumored the UFC might try to host a last-minute live show in Nashville to really seal Strikeforce’s fate, however Zuffa, LLC, the parent company of the UFC and WEC, already had five events set between March and April, making it nearly impossible to arrange a legitimate fight card.
