Counter Strike

If recent reports prove to be true, July 11th will go down as the most monumental day ever in the history of MMA. With UFC 100 already set to jump off, Affliction Entertainment has decided to hold their third promotion on the same day.

MMAWeekly.com has confirmed with sources close to the situation that the popular clothing company will counter the UFC’s centennial event.

According to reports, Affliction will not be holding the event on pay-per-view, and could use either Fox Sports or HDNet to air the entire card. If the entire card airs on cable television, it is highly unlikely that Fedor Emelianenko would fight against the #1 contender to his WAMMA heavyweight title in Josh Barnett.

With that being Affliction’s most attractive fight, there is no way they would sacrifice that type of PPV revenue.  Regardless, both are expected to be participating in the event.

UFC 100 will be headlined by UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre as he will be defending his title against Brazilian juggernaut Thiago Alves.

In addition, if interim heavyweight champion Frank Mir is fully recovered from his knee surgery, Brock Lesnar will not only earn a shot to avenge his loss, but to stake claim to being the UFC’s undisputed champion.

It seems as though Affliction is tired of being the prey to the UFC’s promotional machine and are going on the offensive. Putting their entire event on cable television and competing against UFC 100 could be an act of desperation, but it doesn’t seem like they have any other choice.
