It is being reported that the most highly anticipated rematch in featherweight history will be taking place at WEC 41 on June 7th. Champion Mike Brown will be defending his title in hostile territory as he will be taking on Urijah Faber, the man he TKO’d for the strap, in his own backyard.
According to multiple news outlets, Faber and Brown have both submitted signed bout agreements to the organization stating their intentions to battle inside of Arco Arena in Sacramento, California.
Brown pulled off the ridiculous upset in November at WEC 38 when Faber ate a right fist as he attempted an unorthodox and high risk reverse-flying elbow.
Faber was sent backwards to the canvas and Brown pounced, ending Faber’s three-year winning streak in the 1stRound of their tussle.
Brown will be riding a nine fight-wining streak into the rematch, with his last win coming in his first-ever title defense against Leonard Garcia. It took Brown all of 117 seconds to submit and dispose of the Jackson Submission trained fighter at WEC 39.
Faber responded nicely in his first fight back after losing his crown by submitting former UFC lightweight champ Jens Pulver in just 94 seconds at WEC 38 back in January.
