Atencio Still Mum on Affliction III

Affliction Entertainment vice president Tom Atencio can’t say much about his organization’s upcoming event because he really doesn’t know much, or at least that’s what he wants everyone to believe.

So Tom, is WAMMA heavyweight champ Fedor Emelianenko going to defend his title against Josh Barnett in your third promotion?

“To me, I think it is (the most logical choice for a main event),” Atencio said. “But once again, whether it’s going to happen or not, I don’t know. It really depends on many different factors at this point. Once we have everything in place – until we have it all figured out, I don’t want to say anything because it could change.”

This bout is clearly the most anticipated in its division, however negotiations for the two to collide have previously fallen apart on multiple occasions.

Atencio is a mixed martial arts fan before all else, so obviously he wants to see these two scrap. But for him, if it don’t make dollars, then it don’t make sense.

“It’s just right now it’s just a matter of if it makes sense or not,” Atencio said. “We have some ideas. For me, it’s a fight I definitely want to see. But is it going to happen? As soon as I announce it, I guess you’ll know. I just don’t want to announce anything until I have everything finalized.”

Although the humble VP wasn’t able to share too much regarding their upcoming show, he would like to ask MMA fans worldwide for their patience.

He’s still somewhat of a rookie, ya know?

“All the fans, just keep looking for it,” Atencio requested. “It will happen. It’s just a matter of when. This is only my third event. I’m just taking my time.

“Everybody seems to treat it like it’s my 10th or 15th fight. It’s only our third event. It’s not an easy task.”
