UFC lightweight champ BJ Penn has formally accepted the challenge to defend his title against Kenny Florian at UFC 101 on August 8th.
The Hawaiian stated on his official blog that Florian has already submitted a signed contract, and he intended to do the same shortly.
“I look forward to the challenge,” Penn said.
Due to Penn’s unwavering pursuit to conquer multiple weight classes, he hasn’t defended his 155-pound title since defeating Sean Sherk at UFC 84 in May of last year.
“At the end of the day, I just want this fight to be signed,” Florian said on this week’s edition of MMA LIVE. “Let’s get an event, let’s get a date, and let’s make it happen.”
Ten months of patience will pay off for Florian, as he is finally getting called up from bullpen.
UFC 101 is rumored to be taking place at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Once this scrap gets finalized, UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture’s heavyweight clash with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will be relegated to the night’s co-main event.
