FORMER UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn has just released a video from his hotel room in Abu Dhabi following his unanimous decision loss to Frankie Edgar at “UFC 112: Invincible” on Saturday.
Immediately after hearing the unfavorable 50-45, 48-47, 49-46 verdict, Penn bolted for the locker room as Edgar celebrated the biggest win of his career.
Not many gave the 5-to-1 underdog much of a chance in the UFC’s Middle East debut, however Penn was fully aware of the multitude of threats Edgar presented.
“Edgar’s a very good opponent, he’s got a lot of big wins and he gets after it,” the former champion said when the fight was originally announced.
The proud Hawaiian rocked a pair of sunglasses in his post-fight video, which was posted on BJPenn.com, as he continued to sing the praises of the new champion following the devastating loss.
“I want to congratulate Frankie Edgar, he fought a great fight tonight,” Penn stated. “Congratulations, he’s the new champ.”
The gameplan that Edgar and Co. put together was picture perfect, but as we stated during our live play-by-play coverage of UFC 112, Penn appeared a step slow throughout the contest.
Some are speculating that may have had something to do with the black sleeve on his left knee, however Penn has made no mention of a pre-fight injury.
