Multiple reports have UFC 101 playing host to a light heavyweight match-up between Brandon Vera and Matt Hamill. The event is scheduled to take place at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 8th.
MMAWeekly confirmed with sources close to the situation that both fighters have verbally committed to the bout, and fight contracts should be signed shortly.
Hamill and Vera looked sharp earlier this month at UFC 96, as both emerged victorious in their fights against Mike Patt and Mark Munoz, respectively.
Vera desperately needed the “W” considering he had dropped three of his previous four fights. In addition, he put on an abysmal performance against a below-average Reese Andy in his only win during that stretch.
Although Hamill has a wrestling pedigree, he has made impressive strides in his striking skills. The three-time NCAA champion has finished via TKO in all but one of his six UFC victories. His most impressive was his last, where he landed a jaw-breaking head kick to Munoz’ dome.
