Today, the UFC officially confirmed that Diego Sanchez will headline The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale against Clay Guida. These two Energizer Bunnies are both looking for a relentless battle.
“Clay likes to push the pace and test a fighter’s conditioning, but so do I,” Sanchez said. “Right now, I’m at the perfect weight and it’s the perfect time in my career to make a run at the title. I’ve already won a couple matches at the finales, so I’m feeling confident heading into this fight.”
Sanchez is fresh off of an impressive performance against Joe Stevenson at UFC 95 where he scored a convincing unanimous decision victory in his lightweight debut. It marked the third UFC weight class that the New Mexico-native has competed in.
Guida is one of the division’s most exciting fighters, and is currently riding a three-fight winning streak of his own. His most recent victory came at UFC 94, where he squeaked out a razor-sharp split decision over Nate Diaz.
“I couldn’t feel more confident about this fight right now in my career,” Guida stated. “We’re both coming off three consecutive wins and we’re two of the most explosive lightweights in the division. This has the potential to be fight of the year. My hands are going to be the best they’ve been …Vegas is where I do my best work.”
The June 20th event will be held inside of The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV.
