Today, the UFC officially announced that a heavyweight matchup featuring Heath Herring and budding superstar Cain Velasquez will be taking place at UFC 99 in Cologne, Germany.
Velazquez is quickly making a name for himself inside the Octagon, and hopes for a shot at the title with a few more solid wins. He most recently defeated Denis Stojnic via 2ndRound TKO at “UFC Fight Night 17” earlier this month.
Although his performance was impressive, he still felt that he didn’t put forth his best effort. Regardless, his stock continues to skyrocket up the heavyweight rankings.
Herring is an MMA veteran that was last seen losing a convincing unanimous decision to current champ Brock Lesnar at UFC 87 back in August. Lesnar floored Herring with a right hand in the 1stRound of the contest which fractured his left orbital, requiring a lengthy six-month recovery period.
“I never fought in Vegas, and I was really trying to get on the card,” Herring stated. “I’d sure like to be on that 100 card, be in Vegas, and fight in the biggest UFC event ever. … (But UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva said I should have called a week earlier.”
