It will be the battle of recent losers at UFC 101, well not necessarily losers. Forrest Griffin will face Thiago Silva, as both strikers look to bounce back from devastating losses and get their UFC careers back on track.

Griffin, a former UFC light heavyweight champ, confirmed his participation in the August 8th event on a “Late Night News Presented by Burger King” commercial during the season premier of The Ultimate Fighter 9 on Wednesday.

The free-style fighter rang in the New Year by getting TKO’d by Rashad Evans in his first-ever light heavyweight title defense at UFC 92 this past December.

Not only did The Ultimate Fighter 1 winner lose his strap that night, he also suffered a broken hand that needed to be surgically repaired. He is slated to remain on the medical suspension list through June 27th.

The Xtreme Couture fighter stated that there have been no complications in the healing process which would prevent him from brawling in front of the fans inside of the the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Silva’s unbeaten streak was brought to a screeching halt after he was put to sleep in the 1stRound by Lyoto Machida at UFC 94 earlier this year.

The number 13 proved to be unlucky for the Brazilian sensation, as he was unable to extend his perfect MMA record to 14-0.

UFC 101 will be headlined by UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn’s title defense against Kenny Florian. Penn hasn’t put his belt up for grabs since he defeated Sean Sherk back in May 2008.
