Prior to appearing as a guest on “Live On National Radio,” former UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn announced that Octagon brass have reached out to him in an attempt to arrange an immediate rematch against Frankie Edgar.
“The UFC called us yesterday and there’s probably a rematch in the works with Frankie Edgar,” Penn stated. “It’s still tentative right now. It looks like they want to do the fight again. We’ll see what’s going on, just giving you the head’s up.”
Earlier this morning, Cagepotato.com spoke with Penn’s longtime coach, Rudy Valentino, and was told the Hawaiian was suffering through a sinus infection and was on antibiotics leading up to this past weekend’s UFC 112 title defense.
Valentino claimed that Penn became so ill during camp that it took him almost two weeks to recoup, however he still appeared out of sorts throughout the entire 25-minute battle.
At the same time, Edgar’s speed and quickness certainly didn’t do Penn any favors in Abu Dhabi.
Penn was a 7-to-1 favorite to retain his title against the Jersey boy, however is now eying a summertime mulligan against the newly minted champ.
