Couture Takes on Tate

Kim Couture will be taking on Meisha Tate on Strikeforce’s new developmental promotion, “ShoMMA: Strikeforce Challengers,” on May 15th in Fresno, California.

In Couture’s MMA debut in June of 2008, Kim Rose treated her like a rag doll. Not only did the pretty puncher suffer a unanimous decision loss, but she also received a broken jaw and a bloodied up face for her efforts.

However, in true Couture fashion, Kim rebounded nicely from that loss by TKO’ing Lina Kvokov in the 1stRound of their catfight this past November.

Tate is riding a four-fight winning streak, finishing in three of those affairs.

In a slight change of pace, the bout is scheduled for three five-minute rounds, as opposed to the standard three-minute rounds the California State Athletic Commission allows for women’s bouts.

Headlining the night’s event will be a middleweight clash between Billy Evangelista and Mike Aina.

The undefeated Evangelista made his professional MMA debut in January of 2006. Of his nine victories, four have come via (T)KO along with five decisions.

Aina is quite the MMA journeyman as he has competed for EliteXC, Rumble on the Rock and Spirit MC, just to name a few. He is currently riding a two-fight win streak. Oddly, all of Aina’s losses have come via decision.

The event will air on Showtime, filling the void left by EliteXC’s “ShoXC: Elite Challenger Series” after ProElite’s 2008 collapse.
