Just when you thought the hype surrounding UFC 114’s main event couldn’t get any bigger, Spike TV has just announced they will bring back their popular “UFC Primetime” special to add fuel to the already white-hot fire.
Network officials confirmed with MMAjunkie.com that former light heavyweight champions Rashad Evans and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will be featured in the three-part series, which will make its debut May 12th at 11PM ET/PT.
Subsequent episodes air on successive Wednesdays, May 19th and May 26th, during the same timeslot.
Watch as cameras follow Evans prepare for his bitter rival at Greg Jackson’s famed camp in Albuquerque, New Mexico, while Rampage works with the talented Wolfslair Academy across the pond in England.
The arch enemies were originally slated to fight at UFC 107 after completing their assignments as coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights,” however Rampage opted to turn his back on MMA and accept the role of B.A. Baracus in the movie remake of “The A-Team.”
Rampage holds an impressive 30-7 professional record, however hasn’t fought since taking an uneventful unanimous decision over Keith Jardine, Evans’ Jackson Submission Fighting teammate, at UFC 96 in March 2009.
Evans bounced back nicely from his only professional loss when he escaped with a unanimous decision victory over Thiago Silva at UFC 108. Although the wrestler dominated much of the matchup, Evans was nearly knocked out in the fight’s closing seconds by a desperate Silva.
The trash talking should be at an all-time high as each fighter will be allotted the opportunity to respond within a week to what their foe said on the prior episode. In addition, both are casual users of Twitter (@Rampage4real and @SugaRashadEvans), so this could get very interesting.
UFC 114 takes place May 29th inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
