As previously reported, Strikeforce will indeed host a June 16th event inside the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California. The show will coincide with the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), a popular trade show for the computer and video game industries.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker first told the LA Times of the possible event last week, however today’s announcement was made during a luncheon promoting “EA Sports MMA.”
The majority of the video game’s roster is composed of Strikeforce fighters, so it was important for the organization to help promote their first game.
The E3 2010 trade show runs from June 15-17 at the nearby Los Angeles Convention Center.
Strikeforce is hoping to have former EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler and Jason “Mayhem” Miller headline the Showtime broadcast. In addition, expect for Strikeforce women’s champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and former TNA superstar Bobby Lashley to appear on the card as well.
Lawler owns a 19-5 record and has finished 14 by way of knockout. He put Melvin Manhoef to sleep in his most recent scrap at “Strikeforce: Miami” in January.
Miller holds a 22-7 pro mark with one no-contest. He was last seen dropping a unanimous decision to Jake Shields at “Stirkeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers” for the open middleweight crown.
He’s slated to fight Tim Stout at “Strikeforce: Nashville” this Saturday on CBS.
“EA Sports MMA” is expected to hit the shelves later this year and will compete directly with the popular “UFC Undisputed” series that THQ launched in 2009.
