Strikeforce Middleweight Light Heavyweight Dan Henderson

Following his award winning knockout of Michael Bisping at UFC 100 last April, free agent Dan Henderson had his pick of organizations to sign with. The 39-year-old will make his highly anticipated Strikeforce debut tonight against middleweight king Jake Shields,  although Hendo had his choice there as well.

He is the only man to simultaneously hold two major MMA titles, PrideFC’s 185 and 205-pound crowns, so his tweener status has him in the hunt for not only Shields’ belt, but Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi’s strap as well.

“I was coming off of a big win at 185 and it made more sense to start there and see what happens,” Henderson told 5thRound.com of why he targeted Shields first. “I definitely need to beat Jake before anything else can really be talked about.

“I think Jake’s had a couple of big wins lately and he’s dangerous, so it’s definitely a matchup that excites me and gets me motivated to train hard. It’ll be a challenge.”

With Henderson and Shields set to headline “Strikeforce: Nashville,” Mousasi was assigned to defend his title against Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal as their opening act.

Tonight’s event takes place inside the Bridgestone Arena in Tennessee. The CBS primetime broadcast kicks off at 9PM ET/PT.
