Strikeforce Nashville Dan Henderson Jake Shields

Following the fiasco that went down last Saturday at UFC 112, most believed things couldn’t possibly get much worse for the world’s fastest growing sport. Thankfully for Anderson Silva and the UFC, “Strikeforce: Nashville” stepped in just one week later to take the embarrassment cake.

After dominating veteran Dan Henderson for a unanimous decision victory on Saturday night to retain his middleweight crown, Jake Shields took the mic to address the Bridgestone Arena crowd, however wasn’t able to get too far with his celebratory speech.

Jason “Mayhem” Miller, the man Shields defeated for the open 185-pound title in November, certainly lived up to his nickname by jumping in and stealing the champ’s spotlight by asking for a rematch.

Shields didn’t take too kindly to Miller’s antics and pushed him. Miller charged back but was rudely greeted by Shield’s entourage – that included Strikeforce champs Gilbert Melendez and Nick Diaz – which incited the worst riot in mixed martial arts history.

Unfortunately, fans that didn’t have access to an east coast feed won’t get to watch the brawl when it airs on CBS, however we were able to locate it on YouTube for your convenience.

Strikeforce Champion’s Post-Fight Quotes:

Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal:

“I got careless. He was hitting me with some short shots. They weren’t hurting me or nothing, but you can see the damage on my face.”

“Let me tell you something. You’ll can go ahead and boo me, but I’m gonna keep on winning. So, ya’ll go ahead and keep on booing me, but I’m gonna keep on winning. So thank you to my haters.”

Gilbert Melendez:

“When I was preparing against my big rival, Josh Thomson, I know we were going to war to test our hearts and our souls. Against this guy here, he’s very intelligent and it’s like a chess match so I couldn’t make any mistakes.”

“I had to wait to pull the trigger until the[last] 30 seconds of every round. I wish I could have pulled the trigger a little more, but this guy is real dangerous.”

“I think I’m a top three [lightweight in the world], I think I earned it. I beat the Number 2 guy in the world, possibly the Number 1. I think I deserve a little bit of love now.”

Jake Shields:

(Before Jason “Mayhem” Miller Interrupted)

“Definitely, I love CBS and Strikeforce, but they definitely weren’t giving me my due respect, but  Henderson is a true legend. I’m glad to have beaten him.”

“He beat the crap out of me. The worst I have ever been beaten in that 1stRound.”

(After Jason “Mayhem” Miller Interrupted)

“That’s out of my character. [Miller] got me when my emotions were running high. He came up in my face – came up talking crap. Unfortunately I pushed him. I overreacted.”

“I really wanted to put on more, but unfortunately Henderson is so tough. [In the] 1stround he rocked me and I was dizzy.”
