Since signing a four-fight contract extension with the UFC back in September, Jason MacDonald has dropped his last two scraps, and three of his last four overall. Most would think his head is on the chopping block, however the Canadian received words of encouragement from his boss after this weekend’s loss.
“Here’s the thing that we love,” UFC president Dana White stated at the UFC 97 post-presser. “Anybody who goes out there and tries to fight – MacDonald is always awesome, man. He’s always in an exciting fight.”
MacDonald was humbled in the 1stRound of his contest against Nate Quarry, as the veteran TKO’d him in his own backyard.
“I knew I hit him with a good elbow and cut him,” Quarry said of the strike that changed the course of the fight. “From where the cut was, I knew the blood would get in his eyes and mess with his mind. I just knew that I didn’t want to be on the bottom against him.”
White stated that UFC vice president of talent relations Joe Silva will have the final say on MacDonald’s fate, however when the Prez has your back, you should be in good standing … for now.
“We want guys like Jason,” White said. “They come to fight.”
However, they also like guys that win too.
