Is Anderson Silva Being Punished?

It may be a ridiculous question, but it’s worth asking. With the recent announcement that the UFC middleweight king will take on Forrest Griffin at UFC 102, it seems as though Dana White and company are forcing Silva’s hand.

White made it clear following Silva’s less than stellar 5round affair with Thales Leites that he was, “Unhappy with the whole fight,” and that he was going to talk to Silva about it.

The argument has been made that it’s difficult for a knockout artist like Silva to continually chase opponents who are unwilling to engage because it puts him in danger and takes him out of his gameplan.

Silva recently uttered the same sentiment saying, “I won’t expose myself and be knocked out.”

With that being said, there are plenty of other fighters that White could’ve lined up for Silva that would make an “exciting” fight. James Irvin wouldn’t be considered a Top 10 light heavyweight, but White was willing to put the world’s best fighter in the Octagon against him.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m extremely excited to see if Silva can handle a legitimate light heavyweight, but it just makes me wonder if Silva’s getting the short end of the stick here.
