It is being reported that WEC 42 will be taking place inside the The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 23rd. WEC champ Miguel Torres will defend his bantamweight title against Brian Bowles in the night’s main event.
Although the location is strictly Rumored at this point, WEC co-founder Reed Harris did confirm the event’s date and featured bout with MMAjunkie.
“I think Brian Bowles went out in the 135s and has proven himself more than anybody,” said Torres. “Jeff Curran called me out, talking some smack. He’s just trying to get a fight without having to work for it. I see a lot of what Brian does … he wants his time; I think it’s his time to get a shot. He’s a complete fighter.”
These two were originally slated to fight at WEC 40 earlier this month, but Bowles was forced to pull out due to an injury. Takeya Mizugaki subbed in and surprisingly took the champ the distance, only to receive a unanimous decision loss for his troubles.
The W extended Torres’ winning streak to 17.
The 28-year-old Bowles has ended all four of his WEC bouts before the final bell, earning wins over Will Ribeiro, Damacio Page, Marcos Galvao and Charlie Valencia.
Although five of Bowles’ seven career victories have come via submission, it will be difficult to pull one over on the champion.
Torres was crowned the first-ever WEC bantamweight champion after he submitted Chase Beebe last February. He has since defended the title three times, with TKO wins over Yoshiro Maeda, Manny Tapia at WEC 37 and Mizugaki.
The Joint used to seat roughly 1,500 spectators, however after a recent makeover, the venue can now accommodate up to 4,000 fans.
