WEC bantamweight king Miguel Torres has looked absolutely dominant against his fellow 135-pounders. Like all other great fighters, he is already looking ahead to his next conquest at WEC 42. Torres believes the up-and-coming Brian Bowles is the division’s top contender, and is deserving of a shot at his crown.
“I think Brian Bowles went out in the 135s and has proven himself more than anybody,” said Torres. “Jeff Curran called me out, talking some smack. He’s just trying to get a fight without having to work for it. I see a lot of what Brian does… he wants his time; I think it’s his time to get a shot. He’s a complete fighter.”
Bowles owns a perfect 7-0 record, with his last four wins coming in the WEC. Although he doesn’t have the experience that some of the other fighters in the 135-pound division have, Torres believes his performance speaks for itself.
“Like I’ve said before, I’m in the WEC to fight the best fighters in the world,” said the champ. “I know he doesn’t have a huge record, but from what I’ve seen of him, he’s a very, very honorable opponent.”
It will be an interesting and exciting matchup, as both fighters have knockout abilities and submission skills. Torres believes it is the fight the WEC fans want to see.
“I think Brian (has earned) this fight a while ago. I think he’s a very good opponent for me,” stated Torres. “He loves to stand up; I love to stand up. His jiu-jitsu is very good. His wrestling is very good. I think he’s a very dangerous opponent. I’d love to fight Brian.”
These bantamweight sensations will be slugging it out in a 5Round affair on August 23rd. The show will be held inside The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
