With yesterday’s announcement that UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva would be moving up to the light heavyweight division to take on Forrest Griffin at UFC 101, the organization decided they needed to keep two of the top middleweight contenders busy. Nate Marquardt will be taking on Demian Maia at UFC 102.

Although the UFC has yet to officially announce the bout, Maia took the liberty of doing it for them by posting it on his official website.

The Brazilian jiu-jitsu genius holds a perfect 10-0 professional record, with half of them coming inside of the Octagon. All five of his UFC wins came via submission, including his last bout at UFC 95, where he caught Chael Sonnen in a wicked triangle during the 1stRound of their fight.

Marquardt has been a consistent 185-pound performer through the years, winning nine of his last 11 scraps. One of those losses came at the hands of Silva, where the champ slapped the Jackson Submission fighter silly before the referee put an end to the fight in the 1stRound.

It will be interesting to see if the winner of this tilt automatically jumps to the front of the line for a title shot. Yushin Okami and the winner of the UFC 100 contest between Michael Bisping and Dan Henderson will certainly have something to say about it, as well.

UFC 102 is Rumored to be taking place on August 29th in Portland, Oregon. Former UFC interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will headline the card against UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture.
