Shields on Riggs' Hit List

Jake Shields has impressed many during his ascent up the world rankings, however Joe Riggs is certainly not one of them. He claims the former EliteXC welterweight champ declined an offer to fight him because Riggs is below him, and he’s pissed.

“I wouldn’t be starting this stuff, but as a professional fighter, you get offered to fight someone, you fight them regardless,” said an irritated Riggs. “Unless you have a legitimate reason you don’t want to fight them. Then [Shields] is going to say that I’m beneath him? [Expletive] that mother [expletive].”

Riggs states that Strikeforce initially intended to have the two meet on June 6th at “Striekforce: Lawler vs. Shields,” however Shields demanded a more formidable opponent. The organization then opted to have Shields headline the event against former EliteXC middleweight champ Robbie Lawler in a catch-weight bout at 182 pounds.

Riggs was insulted by Shields’ arrogant ways and is intent on settling their differences inside the cage.

“[Expletive] Jake Shields, he’s got a big [expletive] mouth,” Riggs said. “He’s got a big mouth, and he thinks he’s way better than he is.

“I’m not saying he’s not a good fighter. Jake Shields is very good. I’ll give him that. Just for instance, I saw him on that ‘Bully Beatdown’ show. He looked like a [expletive] nerd. He’s just a [expletive] turd.”

Wow, Shields must really be under Riggs’ skin for him to pull out a ‘turd’ reference.  Not since elementary school has someone unleashed such vicious smack-talk.

So it wasn’t the best insult, but Riggs claims to have the upper-hand in that area as well.

“I was at the Strikeforce when Frank (Shamrock) and Nick (Diaz) fought, and I’m sitting ringside,” Riggs said. “After that, Nick Diaz looks over and he’s talking [expletive]. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So we started going back in forth. Then Jake Shields jumps in. He goes, ‘What’s up? You’ve got ‘Diesel’ on your stomach. What is that?’ I’m like, ‘You’ve got my [expletive] in your mouth, [expletive].’

“He doesn’t even know how to talk [expletive]. But the whole weekend before, he would see me like five yards away, and he would turn away and look away. He would see me coming, and he wouldn’t even look at me. The guy, he’s a [expletive] coward. He’s a nerd who’s learned how to grapple. That’s all it is. Hats off to him.”

Riggs will be taking on Diaz for the open Strikeforce welterweight crown at “Strikeforce: Carano vs Cyborg” on August 15th. If he is victorious that night, the MMA vet would like nothing more than to parlay that into a beatdown of Shields immediately after.
