Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields was in the house at ARCO Arena on Saturday night. Not a big deal, right? It wouldn’t normally be, but everyone was buzzing because of the person he happened to be sitting next to.
As you can see from the screenshot of tonight’s pay-per-view broadcast, Shields and UFC president Dana White appear rather chummy and it’s obvious the two weren’t placed together by accident.
Shields’ name and record were flashed on the screen, while White mouths to the camera, “He’s mine!”
Obviously Shields could’ve been at the event to catch the fights, but it looked way too staged to be coincidental. Could the free agent be heading to the UFC?
It may be a little too early of a conclusion to make if you ask MMA insider Josh Gross.
“Shields has an exclusive negotiating period with Strikeforce. I’ve heard between 30-60 days,” Gross Tweeted following the Shields sighting.
We’ll have to wait and see how the Jake Shields drama unfolds, but White clearly looks happy about something … I wonder what it could be.
