Alves Has High Hopes – With the biggest fight in his young career just two months away, Thiago Alves is set to begin his toughest training camp ever. The welterweight top contender believes that Colorado’s mile-high mountains will help him reach his lofty expectations.

“It’s going to be a good camp [in Colorado],” said Alves. ”It’s going to be five weeks. We’ve got our house and everything, and all we are going to do is train and sleep and train.”

For the next few weeks, the American Top Team superstar will kick it at his pad in Coconut Creek before heading to Colorado Springs, Colorado for the most intense five-week training session he has ever endured.

“It’s a title shot … I’m going to do everything I can to get there, and Colorado is just another thing that I have to do,” Alves stated.

Alves is drawing upon the high-altitude training he did for his scrap against Karo Parisyan one year ago. Although he knocked the Armenian out in less than 2Rounds, he knows that a 5Round affair against 170-pound king Georges St-Pierre is awaiting him and he will have to take his preparation to another level.

“I just want to kill the guy [St-Pierre] and run through him. I’m bringing this belt home,” Alves said.

And how exactly does he intend to jack the title from the welterweight division’s golden boy?

“I’m going to look for the knockout,” Alves confidently said. “I’m going to make him pay for every mistake. I know he doesn’t make many mistakes, but … I’m going to make him make those mistakes, and he is going to pay for everything.”

It is the most anticipated fight in MMA this year, and the kicker is that they aren’t even UFC 100‘s main event. These two studs will be the opening act on July 11th at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada for the heavyweight unification bout between Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir.
