Fans Not so Sweet on “Sugar” Rashad – Have you ever felt that no matter what you did, it would never be enough? That is exactly how UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans feels every single day.

Since his days on the second season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Evans has jumped on the last nerve of the majority of UFC fans. There is no rhyme or reason as to why or what he did to earn that level of resentment, he just has.

“You know what, I can’t understand it either,” Evans stated about his ability to irritate fans. “I try not to. There was a time where it really bothered me and ate at me and I was like, ‘I don’t understand.’ I’m in the arena and everyone is booing me.”

It certainly isn’t something that he is trying to do. He knows that in this business, regardless of how good you are, if the fans despise you, the unemployment office better be on your speed-dial. He is so conscious of that fact that he has made endless efforts to get the UFC fans on his side.

“…that’s so funny because everyone is in here booing at me, but I just spent about two hours signing autographs,” stated the 205-pound champ. “So who the hell is booing at me, you know what I’m saying? Who’s booing at me? It’s just so contradictory to everyone that comes to speak to me. I always treat everyone with respect. Yet everyone still boos.”

It hasn’t helped Evans’ cause that in his last three fights, he has defeated Michael Bisping, Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin, respectively. All three are UFC fan-favorites, particularly the last two.

“They don’t like me. But that’s OK,” Evans added. “Everybody has a cross to bear in life and maybe that’s my cross to bear. I don’t have to be popular in life, as long as I know who I am then that’s OK.”

It probably doesn’t bother him because he is the current king of the UFC’s most coveted division. It’s a lot easier to accept being a hated man when you have a certain little something wrapped around your waist.
