Paul Daley & Josh Koscheck Bring Animosity That UFC 113’s Main Event Lacks

The rematch between light heavyweight champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida and challenger Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will headline UFC 113, but it’s the co-main event that will likely grab all the headlines leading up to Saturday night’s pay-per-view broadcast.

For all of the mutual respect the Brazilians are showing towards one another, welterweights Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley haven’t stopped talking trash since the pivotal welterweight contest was announced a few months back.

“For whatever reason, people like to latch on to the fact that Koscheck’s eye is a little [expletive] up and he looks a little bit like a Fraggle [Rock],” Daley said of Koscheck at a recent UFC 113 media call.

The Brit took their beef a step further by starting a photoshop contest on the Internet to see who could make his opponent look the silliest. After dozens of entries, we’ve put together some of our favorite Kos pictures below:

“I’m going to knock Koscheck out, you know. That’s it. It’s plain and simple,” a confident Daley continued.

This fight means a lot to both 170-pounders as not only a shot at UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is on the line, but also an opportunity to coach opposite GSP on the next season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

In terms of wins inside the UFC, Koscheck will be looking for lucky number 13 this weekend inside the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Only Matt Hughes (17), Chuck Liddell (16), Randy Couture (15), Tito Ortiz (14) and Georges St-Pierre (14) own more victories in the Octagon.

Notice anything among the champions on the list have that Koscheck doesn’t? Oops, did I just give it away.

Despite holding so many Octagon wins, not only has Koshceck never held a title belt, but he’s never even sniffed a 5Round championship fight.

“I figured I would probably be fighting St. Pierre before this one. You know, the UFC called me and said, ‘you want to fight Paul Daily?’ and I said ‘absolutely.’ You know, I don’t turn a fight down,” a confident Koscheck said.

Both fighters have knockout power – Koscheck with his right hand and Daley with his left – and both promise to put each other to sleep. The reward for the welterweight that can stay awake?

An unenviable showdown with the division’s king.
