Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann was once the #1 contender to the UFC middleweight title when Rich Franklin was ruling the weight division, but now he’s getting some flack for turning down a fight with up-and-coming welterweight, TJ Grant. “I want to fight some higher ranked guys,” Kampmann told Versus.

With a recent win over former WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit, Kampmann wants to fight guys who will help him move up in the weight class.

“I got to be smart about my career and take the fights that make sense for me, and I don’t think that fight makes sense for me at this time,” Kampmann explained.

The Danish fighter currently owns a 2-0 record at 170lbs. and is rumored to possibly face the winner of either the Mike Swick vs. Ben Saunders or Dan Hardy vs. Marcus Davis fight at UFC 99.
