Zuffa, LLC, the parent company of the UFC and the WEC, will monopolize MMA a little more than usual the second weekend of August as they will be hosting UFC 101 on the 8th, then WEC 42 that same Sunday.
This slight change of date was first reported by the Times of Northwest Indiana.
The WEC was initially intending on having bantamweight champion Miguel Torres defend his crown against top contender Brian Bowles on August 23rd. However, Zuffa opted to have UFC 101 open up for their lesser-known league as they will be able to promote it throughout the pay-per-view event.
UFC 101 will be taking place at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Lightweight champ BJ Penn will be making his first title defense since May of 2008. Top contender Kenny Florian has been impressively working his way up the ranks for this opportunity and has put the champ on high alert.
Torres was initially slated to face Bowles at WEC 40, however the challenger was forced to pull out due to a back injury.
Instead, Torres went on to take a unanimous decision over Takeya Mizugaki last month. The 135-pound stud is perfect through his last 17 scraps.
WEC 42 will be held inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. You can catch the main bouts airing LIVE on Versus Network.
