UFC middleweight Nate Marquardt will still be fighting at UFC 116 on July 3rd, however is in need of a new opponent.
It has been reported by multiple outlets that Alessio Sakara has pulled out of the scheduled bout due to the recent passing of his father.
UFC officials are currently searching for a replacement to fight Marquardt inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Regardless of the opponent, it is believed Marquardt would remain on the televised portion of the pay-per-view broadcast.
UFC 109 was supposed to be the night Marquardt earned another shot at Anderson Silva, but current top contender Chael Sonnen crashed Marquardt’s party and reshuffled the UFC’s middleweight rankings.
Marquardt came up well short in his first attempt at gold when he lost via TKO against Silva at UFC 73. That bout was almost three years ago and he has been working relentlessly towards another shot ever since.
