Immediately following Lyoto Machida’s knockout victory over Rashad Evans, everybody thought the UFC was going to throw a fastball right down the middle and give Quinton “Rampage” Jackson an immediate title shot. Instead, the UFC has thrown a curveball by giving Mauricio “Shogun” Rua the nod instead.
UFC president Dana White tweeted the following message on his Twitter page Tuesday, which included a picture of Shogun, “Look who’s in the office today!!!”
With Rua’s shocking TKO victory over Chuck Liddell at UFC 97, he propelled himself back into the light heavyweight title picture, which has apparently earned him a title shot against fellow Brazilian, Lyoto Machida.
Karate-king Machida has yet to find himself in trouble during his current run in the UFC where he has compiled an 8-0 record while not dropping a single round.
No venue or event has been announced for the light heavyweight title fight, but the early rumor has Los Angeles landing the big fight at UFC 104 at Staples Center.
