Former UFC lightweight Roger Huerta competed at Bellator 17 tonight in Boston, Mass. against Pat Curran. The two met in the semi-finals of Bellator’s lightweight tournament.

Heading into the tourney, Huerta was the odds-on favorite to earn a shot at the current 155-pound champion Eddie Alvarez.

Unfortunately for Huerta, nobody told Curran, as he shocked the MMA world and scored an upset unanimous decision victory.

Coincidentally, Alvarez also competed in Thursday’s card, easily dispatching of Octagon veteran Josh Neer with a submission victory.

“El Matador” started out slow and wasn’t able to get the decision he needed to move into the finals of the tournament.

“I started out pretty flat and he capitalized. Ultimately, it’s my fault for leaving it up to the judges. It’s really tough for me to swallow, but now I just need to regroup and look to the future,” Huerta said following the loss.

Curran is now one win away from getting a shot at the Bellator lightweight title.
