The most highly anticipated light heavyweight rematch in recent history is set to go down tonight at UFC 113 when champion Lyoto Machida makes his second consecutive title defense against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Although the superstars were given their assignments months ago, the combat sports wing of Quebec’s Régie des Alcools des Courses et des Jeux (RACJ) has just decided on the four representatives who will preside over the main event inside the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

According to Sherdog.com, the RACJ has selected Yves Lavigne – Quebec’s most experienced referee – to join Machida and Shogun inside the Octagon.

More importantly, the three judges scoring the mulligan will be Tony Weeks of Nevada, Sal D’Amato of Wisconsin, and Pasquale Procopio of Quebec.

Procopio appears to be the most intriguing selection, as he beat out fellow Quebecois judges Claude Paquette and David Therien for the assignment. Procopio is arguably Quebec’s top boxing judge, however has very little MMA experience.

Most believe Paquette was the more appropriate choice.

The Brazilians initially met in a hard-fought battle at UFC 104 this past October. Although the champ was awarded 48-47 scores from judges Nelson Hamilton, Cecil Peoples and Marcos Rosales, most – if not all – of the fans inside Staples Center in Los Angeles believed Machida got away with robbery.

After watching the fight on replay, Hamilton claimed he would have scored the fight in Shogun’s favor had he experienced the scrap live from a different angle.

Peoples wasn’t quite as open to the idea of second-guessing his score, telling those that didn’t agree, “If you don’t like it, you can go to hell!”

FYI, it’s highly uncommon for commissions to select an official to judge a rematch after working the first encounter.

Here are the controversial scorecards from UFC 104:
