UFC 100 has stolen most of the headlines, but the two main events on UFC 101 are perhaps just as good with some of the most recognizable names in all of mixed martial arts going at it.

The first big fight at UFC 101, which will take place in Philadelphia on August 8, is a matchup between superstar BJ Penn and challenger Kenny Florian for the UFC lightweight title. Many pundits have long considered Penn to be just about unbeatable at lightweight, since he only seems to lose against bigger opponents, but Florian is good enough to challenge if not beat anyone in the division.

The addition of a strength coach after he was manhandled by Sean Sherk has Florian looking better than ever. His striking, especially his kicks, are extremely fluid and his transition game on the ground is impressive as he goes from one submission attempt to another.

Penn is a -200 to +150 favorite over Florian, and Penn is so flexible and seasoned on the ground that getting submitted by anyone in the division is unlikely.

The second big fight of the night will pit UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva against former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin.

Silva is a -300 to +200 favorite over Griffin, but that’s not to say “The Spider” isn’t in danger in this one.

Griffin could have a big size advantage in the fight because he walks around at abouot 230 pounds and will probably outweigh Silva by a significatn amount come fight night.

Silva will counter with his quick-strike muay thai game and devastating ground skills, but Griffin might be too big to be submitted by Silva in this one. Regardless of the outcome, Griffin has the kind of moxie and aggressive style to make this fight way more entertaining than Silva’s last one against Thales Leites.

Speaking of Leites, he’s back in action at UFC 101 in an undercard matchup with Alessio Sakara. Other notable UFC 101 fights include former Ultimate Fighter Amir Sadollah’s long-awaited welterweight debut against Johnny Hendricks and a matchup between Kendall Grove and Ricardo Almeida.

The action should be fierce at UFC 101 as the organization continues to put together top-notch fight cards, so stayed tuned to BetUS.com for more UFC betting opportunities as one of the best MMA events of the summer draws near.
