If you believe MMAMadness.com, then Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson’s chances of attaining a six-figure contract from the UFC just got a hell of a lot harder. According to the website, former IFL heavyweight champ Roy “Big Country” Nelson has joined the cast of “The Ultimate Fighter: Season 10.” Former two-time UFC fighter Wes Sims will also be appearing in the show.
Nelson, arguably the most polished MMA fighter to ever compete in the popular reality show, appears to be the early favorite to take first prize in this season’s heavyweight tournament.
His unique combination of punching power, submissions and ground game make him a very difficult match-up for most. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention how massive he is? They didn’t name him “Big Country” for no reason.
Most MMA fans last saw him being slapped silly by Andrei Arlovski at “EliteXC: Heat” last October. However, Nelson recently lost a unanimous decision to former UFC top heavyweight contender Jeff Monson on Roy Jones Jr’s “March Badness” card earlier this year.
I know, I didn’t watch it either.
It has been five years since Wes Sims last fought in the UFC. After going 0-2 inside the Octagon many thought he had fallen off the face of the earth.
Not true, as this season of “The Ultimate Fighter” is making miracles happen for many. The imposing 6’10” Sims will not only bring his ginormous stature to the show, but he will also take a 22-12-1 professional record along with him.
This season should be the show’s best in quite some time. Here’s hoping that Neson gets put on Rampage’s squad so we can hear him crack on Nelson’s gargantuan beer-belly.
