SI.com’s Josh Gross has just reported that Broward Country Circuit Court Judge Marc C. Gold has ruled in favor of Don King Productions, granting the promoter’s company with an injunctive relief against Shine Fight Promotions.
Gross claims Shine will ignore the court order and move forward with featuring Ricardo Mayorga in tonight’s pay-per-view broadcast.
DKP claimed Mayorga was in breach of his exclusive promotional contract and that the MMA promotion had infringed on DKP’s business agreement with Mayorga by trying to promote him in tonight’s “Worlds Collide” event. However, Shine Fights CEO Devin Price argued from day-one that DKP’s contract with the athlete pertains only to his boxing career, and not his mixed martial arts endeavors.
Gross is reporting that King is required to post bond in case the order is reversed. Once that happens, the ruling is final. He added that Judge Gold threatened serious sanctions if Shine decides to disobey his order.
“Don King is a jerk,” Mayorga told MMAHeat’s Karyn Bryant immediately after the ruling.
Tonight’s event takes place inside the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, NC. The card is/was slated to featured Mayorga’s mixed martial arts debut against MMA veteran Din Thomas.
The PPV broadcast kicks off at live at 9PM ET/6PM PT and comes with the everyday low price of $29.95.
