It appears Shine Fight Promotions came to their senses and have backed down from their initial threat to go against court orders and feature Don King’s boxing star Ricardo Mayorga in tonight’s “Worlds Collide” pay-per-view broadcast.
Karyn Bryant of MMAHeat was the first to report the cancellation.
Earlier this morning, Broward Country Circuit Court, Judge Marc C. Gold, ruled in favor of Don King Productions – granting the promoter’s company with an injunctive relief against Shine.
Shine initially said they would ignore the court order and move forward with their scheduled main event between Mayorga and MMA veteran Din Thomas. Instead, cooler heads prevailed and the night’s co-featured bout between Murilo “Ninja” Rua (pictured) and David Heath will now headline tonight’s PPV show.
DKP filed a complaint stating Mayorga was in breach of his exclusive promotional contract and that the MMA promotion had infringed on DKP’s business agreement with Mayorga by trying to promote him in tonight’s “Worlds Collide” event. However, Shine Fights CEO Devin Price argued from day-one that DKP’s contract with the athlete pertains only to his boxing career, and not his mixed martial arts endeavors.
“Don King is a jerk,” Mayorga told MMAHeat’s Karen Bryant immediately after the ruling.
Tonight’s event takes place inside the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, NC. The live broadcast kicks off at at 9PM ET/6PM PT and comes at the everyday low price of $29.95.
