To the surprise of no one, UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture and former interim heavyweight champ Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will headline UFC 102 inside the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon.
Although this heavyweight scrap had been rumored for a minute, the organization curiously decided to announce multiple under card bouts before confirming this main event.
Today, the UFC made official that the 45-year-old Couture will be taking on the Brazilian jiu jitsu wizard in the night’s final bout.
“I’d fight Nogueira,” Couture said of “Big Nog” a few months back. “I had other reasons to turn down that fight last year, but that was a whole different situation. He’s a tremendous fighter. I’ve watched him for years.”
Nogueira was last seen losing his interim heavyweight title at UFC 92, where Frank Mir TKO’ed him in the 2ndRound of their affair.
After a one-year hiatus from the Octagon, Couture returned to lose his heavyweight title to Brock Lesnar at UFC 91 this past November.
